S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 was a unique experience for me. I started off with a little bit of mixed feelings about the game. From where I sit, if you haven’t played the first game – which in my case I haven’t – the game doesn’t give you enough information to make you feel buckled in. For the first couple of hours I really felt lost and had the feeling that leaving the game would be a better option, but by pushing myself a bit and not having any other games to play, I stuck with the game and oh boy, am I glad I did!
Compared to the other games on the market, S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 was a really different game. The game has done a good job with its AI. Contrary to other opinions, I didn’t encounter many game-breaking bugs, let alone the normal ones. The whole experience gave me the feeling that I was really in a post-apocalyptic world and was trying to survive on my own. Not only are you trying to survive in this hell, but you’re also trying to manage your resources so that you don’t starve, you don’t die from radiation and, most importantly, you don’t get your weapon jammed while you’re fighting. (OP died at least 15 times because he was too lazy to repair his weapon when he could, me? personally? I’d never do that, come on…)
The world is big and filled with a huge amount of different activities & encounters. From helping people in need, to fighting against the mutants and trying not to become a victim of the anomalies. Apart from discovering this great mystery of a map, playing like a god of this universe was the most appealing part of the game. What do I mean by that? You might ask. Well, I get to decide who is going to live and who is going to die, most of the time.
But it’s not all sunshine and rainbows, as the game has a lot of downsides as well. The universe of the game is amazing, but from a story point of view, I have the feeling that the game is missing something. I found it hard to get into the story as you have no idea from the start how it all happened and who you are. There was also a lack in the key mapping of the game. There are a lot of keys to press and it all gets very complicated. The main reason for this problem was the consumables. They kept changing places if you didn’t keep setting them up manually. Optimization was also a big problem at times. There were a lot of crashes, stutters and so on, especially in the later parts of the game.
Summary:
Overall I’ve had somewhat pleasant experience. From my perpsective game does lack replayability but it probably is not same for everyone.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2… thanks for the pleasant time we shared. I’ll cherish our moments… farewell!
