It feels great to be back after a long time. And to make it even better, I’m back with a Silent Hill 2 review. Silent Hill 2 is considered by many to be one of the greatest games in the horror genre. Well… I’m not going to lie, it was the first time I played Silent Hill… I know, I know, guilty as charged!
Silent Hill 2 is a representation for me in a depressive state. It’s all very foggy and very dark. In fact, the first 3 or 4 hours of the game, I was on the verge of just giving up on the game. The feeling of being lost and not being able to relate to anything that was going on. But as I kept on playing, the game managed to keep me hooked in a very strange way. The story just kept getting weirder and weirder and it made me really curious to see what was going to happen next.
What is Silent Hill? I don’t think it’s just the story of a man who has lost his “loved one”. It’s more about a man who is willing to lose and risk everything to find his loved one. A man who is calm and collected, but who loses himself more and more as the story unfolds. A story that makes you wonder who the real monster is out there. Are they the ones we are on the hunt for or… are we the monster?
Please be ready to get kicked, spit on, choked, slammed and so much more in SH2! -you know there are people who pays for these stuff right?-
The game does feel a little repetitive. Maybe there are some people out there who would love that, but for me the game started to get boring after the 9 hour mark. Although the story is interesting and mysterious, the gameplay repeats itself over and over again. You go to a new zone, you find a map of the local area, you discover things, you solve a puzzle while fighting the same kind of monsters. Then voila! You go to a new zone, you find a map of the local area… you see the pattern?
Summary:
It is easy to see why Silent Hill has come to be regarded as one of the cult classics. The game does an excellent job of keeping you on the edge of your seat with the gunplay, and the overall mechanics don’t feel clunky, yet it’s a repetitive game that rewards those who can endure this type of gameplay with a good story.
